Our vision
A block where the oldest person living alone is the best looked-after person on it.
What we do every day
Fourteen driveways cleared before seven in the morning, December to March.
We'd host
Porch Fest — nine porches, nine bands, one Saturday. Everybody brings a chair.
Who else deserves to be seen
The hardware store on Old Highway 8. They have loaned more than they have sold.
What we teach our people
Nobody here is in charge of anybody, and the work still gets done.
Every year
The Long Table. One table on the lawn, and whoever turns up eats at it.
Volunteer of the month
R
Ray T.
Runs the shovel list off a paper map and will not be talked into a spreadsheet.
Neighbor of the month
A
The Alvarez family
Host the Long Table in their yard every time it rains.

“Somebody shovelled my mother's drive for three winters and never knocked.” — A NEIGHBOR
A kindness that helped us
Somebody left a new snowblower in the shed. No note, no name.
A kindness we give
We keep a spare set of keys for four houses on the block, for the days people lock themselves out.
Why we opened our doors
This began when two of us started clearing one driveway, and it turned out the whole block had been meaning to.
Our house move
Come to the Thursday meal without joining anything, signing anything, or being asked who you are.
Who taught us kindness
Mrs. Okafor, who fed the whole street the winter the power went out.
A regular we'd miss
The man who shows up early every time, and has never once been asked to.

A public record of the kindness you already practice — nobody asked to be on it. A²OK filled this card in from what you have already published, so you could see it finished rather than empty. Every marked line and every marked symbol is our guess. We would much rather have yours.
Kindness is an annual plant. It has to be planted every year. We don't sign our acts, but we do sign our commitments. You shouldn't have to say it about yourself. That's what we're here for. A Spark accrues only for an act performed without seeking credit. Every charter member is a light on the map. Not advertising — a place to celebrate the kindness you already practice.
